    Go with Dynomax welded muffler. No drone and low tone. Only loud when you are wide open throttle. I did the Edelbrock Pro Flow 4 on a 454 swapped C10 for a customer. I had to play with it for a day to get the tune correct. He loves the cold start and overall drivability. I found that it was a learning curve to get it right. But once I got it right, it’s perfect and has been for 2yrs now. Did you set AF target under part throttle ect? You can call Edelbrock tech line and they are SUPER helpful!!!!

    Hey Matt you might try an oval stock muffler, or similar style like a flow master or a torpedo muffler which is like a really long glass pack muffler. The reason I say that is my old 78 Ford F-250 and 1979 Ford F-350, never sounded that loud with their 360 and 390 engines. For that matter neither did the 460 that TSTI dropped into a 1984? Ford F-350, and those trucks had stock mufflers, but also had stock exhaust manifolds you can also add a resonator in before the muffler to quiet the engine down.

    • @MattKubik1791
      @MattKubik1791 5 днів тому

      I ended up putting 2 of the aftermarket packed style mufflers on it and it seemed to quiet it down a lot. I think it mainly need sound deadening to stop the drone.

      Doesn't flow master have long oval shaped glass pack mufflers called hush power supposed to tone the engine down like 30 percent or something like that

    In the summer of 1979 my dad blew the engine up in my Ford F250 custom 2wd with a 390 6.4 litre engine. I was a sophmore in college and had 750 bucks to get another engine in the truck. I got a used 390 FE out of a 1970 LTD from an suto repair shop for a 100 bucks so I took the motor apart, took the engine block to a machine shop and my uncle Richard worked in the parts department at a Ford dealer so I got a deal on parts and got a 425 hp Ford cam that was in the 427 motors. I ported and polished the cylinder heads and the Ford cast iron high rise 4 barrel intake off a 1968 GTA mustang motor a guy was parting out. I put a set of headers on it with a simple dual exhaust exiting behind the rear wheels. It ended up a pretty decent engine rebuild. If that engine in your truck sounds too loud, you might be getting too old.

      @@MattKubik1791 Yea it was, that Ford truck was a custom F-250 2wd but it had 1 ton brakes and 1 ton springs. I put 200 psi air shocks from Dick Cepek on the rear shocks and a rough country hydraulic steering stabilizer and poly air spring bags in the front springs. It hauled my Sigma Pi fraternity brothers at the UM-Columbia around back in college when people could ride in the back of a pickup truck and have fun. Plus that truck could tow just about anything boat and trailer or camper.

Happy memories of riding next to him driving around town, the smell of the interior, the sound of that V8, the view thru the windshield with that unique Ford hood shape. I want to buy one of this. Is it difficult to find one in good shape, I would rebuild the engine, transmission, rebuild the suspension, brakes. How much a truck like this fully mechanically operational would cost?

  • @johndixon4807
    @johndixon4807 19 днів тому

    Walker Quiet Flows helped me to hear myself think in the Mustang. They were a much better choice than the Borlas they replaced. There is a 3.5" inlet and outlet option, but it gets pricey. I got the 2.5" offset inlet and center outlet through Rockauto for $50-60 a muffler last year. If I had a muffler from a diesel truck laying around, then I would start there too. For the starter, with only 2 bolts, you may have this same trouble again of bolts getting loose. A few random thought for the third bolt…. 1. Drill through the plate and transmission. Run the bolt through both, buildup a flat spot on the transmission by welding or grinding for a bolt head. 2. Drill through the plate and transmission then enlarge the hole in the transmission to allow for a Torqs head or allen head bolt to set against the adapter plate. Both would still leave the starter serviceable. 3. Last thought is to tap the plate for a stud then drill the threads out of the third hole on the starter for a slip fit. You could cut away some of the starter housing to allow for the stud to be seen, then add a nut and washer. Hopefully there is enough detail to visualize the thoughts in my head. Good luck.

    Just came across your channel. Nice old truck! I’m not really a ford guy but I’ve owned a few over the years ( 69 Bronco and a 70 Boss 302). I wish I still had them. How are you liking the Pro Flo 4 efi? I’m trying to to decide if I want to go with it or the Holley Sniper 2. I’m leaning more to the Pro Flo 4 because it’s multi port and the ecu isn’t inside the throttle body. I was thinking on your starter issue and the 3rd bolt that you don’t have access to. Maybe putting a dowel pin there may help a little with strength in it up a little. Have you checked with Alcan Springs? They make nice custom leafs for a lot of trucks.

    • @MattKubik1791

      I am on the fence about it. Given the cost of the unit now I am not sure I would buy it. I got it before the price went way up on them. I am not sure I see enough benefit for the cost. Fuel mileage isn't that great. (but running a 428) I feel like a simple carb would be better for everything I do other than taking it to the mountains at high elevation and being able to adjust air fuel on the fly.

    • @slingingsteel9744
      @slingingsteel9744 28 днів тому

      @@MattKubik1791 I know how you feel about the cost. I’ve got a Gen VI 454 that I’m rebuilding to put in my 1985 Chevy K10 on 1 ton axels. I’m also putting in a 5 speed manual transmission with it. I’m back and forth about putting efi on it. I like the simplicity and ease of repair of a carburetor. My plan for the truck is to travel around out west in a couple years when I retire. I live in the south east and my concern like you stated is dramatic elevation and temperature changes in the mountains. I’m not sure how well a carburetor will do in that situation without having to do a lot of adjusting but I also worry about the reliability of the aftermarket efi systems. Pros and cons of both I guess. I will be following you on your adventures with your cool old truck. Nothing like the old classics back when trucks were trucks and built tough and didn’t have all the crazy electronic gadgets that they have now.

    I had a 4bt in mine without sound deadening, then swapped it out for a 6bt with firewall sound deadening. Sound deadening is a must have creature comfort learned the hard way. Wrapped exhaust and used sections of welding blanket near cab exhaust routing, then hosed that all down with exhaust paint. Yes you can still hear everything but the decibels don’t cut right into the skull at highway speeds and I don’t miss wearing headphones.
